ROBERT (Bob) GREENHILL
Board member

Born and educated in Burnie where my family ran a mixed farm. I have six siblings and was the youngest son.
Worked for several years on the family farm and working on mainland Australian properties before moving to Hobart. Worked in the Physics Dept. of Tasmania University while studying at night school.
After marrying Pat Amos, Gordon and Ruth purchased Glen Gala and persuaded us to return to the property. After Gordon’s death I became manager of the Gala and Glen Gala properties.
We have been able to follow Gordon’s wishes by putting parts of the original grants together into one land holding. Our son Adam now manages Gala and Glen Gala estates.
Our farming has changed from grazing to more intensive farming with the introduction of irrigation. We now run multi-purpose merino sheep, grow seed crops and Adam and his wife Grainne have planted out a vineyard and operate Gala Winery from Cranbrook.
Farming is my main interest! Pat and I have enjoyed many camping trips around Australia in recent winters.

PATRICIA GREENHILL (Née Amos)
Board member

Descendant of John Amos. Daughter of Alfred Gordon (Gordon) and Ruth Amos. Married Bob Greenhill in 1967 and we have two children Kate and Adam. Two sisters Helen and Alison.
Spent most of my life living at "Gala" and then "Glen Gala". Attended Cranbrook State School for primary education and was a boarder at St. Michael’s Collegiate School in Hobart for my secondary education. Trained as a Kindergarten Teacher in Melbourne and taught at the Lady Gowrie Centre in Hobart after graduating.
My parents purchased Glen Gala after Bob and I were married and we then moved back to Cranbrook to farm at Gala and Glen Gala properties.
My parents were deeply interested in family history and growing up in this environment it was hard not to follow their example. I also enjoy outdoor life.

JANE AMOS. Board member

Daughter of Donald and Elizabeth Amos. Spent my childhood on the farm in Cranbrook with older siblings Bruce and Anne. I am a sixth generation descendent of John and Hannah Amos. I was educated in Cranbrook, Launceston and Hobart. Since 1979 I have lived in Brisbane and maintain strong links with my family on the East coast of Tasmania, visiting whenever able.

After a career in the private sector, moved to the Queensland Government, working in Senior Project and Policy Officer roles prior to my retirement in 2011.  I have a lifelong interest in politics and Australian history. Hobbies include reading, gardening, craft and Tai Chi. I have a daughter and granddaughter.

Currently co-authoring a booklet on the Amos Family Cemetery, Cranbrook with Jennifer Amos.

DAVID AMOS. Board member

6th generation descendant of John and Hannah Amos of Cranbrook, my family live in Cranbrook House. I am the current custodian of Cranbrook Estate in partnership with my wife Jennie and son John. Jennie and I have an elder son James who runs Freycinet Coast Tours (wine tours) and a daughter Sophie, who is a rural primary school teacher.

Educated at the Cranbrook and Swansea schools, then a boarder at The Friends School, Hobart. After schooling I worked in the Websters Wool Store to further learn my trade.

Continuing my father Jim’s legacy I maintain Cranbrook Estate as a fine wool producing property, supplemented by prime lambs. In 2000 a vineyard of pinot and chardonnay grapes was planted, overlooking the Swan Valley, above the frost line. This vineyard now produces top of the range grapes, as sampled in high profile wines such as, House of ArrasBay of Fires and Eileen Hardy Chardonnay

I am an avid gardener and have managed to establish an extensive vegetable garden supplying the Cranbrook Estate household with fresh produce, which pairs beautifully with our homegrown Cranbrook Estate lamb!

My sisters Heather & Pam and I are also current custodians of the Amos Family Cemetery.

JENNIE AMOS. Board member

A Victorian by birth, (daughter of Ken and Betty Hardy) I came to Tasmania as a teenager when my father was appointed the state ANZ Bank Personnel Manager.

My first visit to the East Coast was in Grade 10 when I was invited to stay on my friend Claire Stanfield’s family farm, The Bend. I met my husband David Amos through this connection. After marrying in 1989, I moved into Cranbrook House and David’s parents retired to Swansea. We have three adult children.

Trained as an early Childhood Teacher at UTAS, I taught mostly in country schools throughout southern Tasmania. My final appointment was as Principal at Swansea Primary School.

Since retirement, I have been assisting our eldest son James, with his Freycinet Coast Wine Tours. I am currently Secretary of the Cranbrook Hall, Chairperson of St Andrews’ Church Council and member of the Swansea Court House Committee, Glamorgan/Spring Bay Historical Society and Heritage Rose Society. I am also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

My interests are antiques, genealogy and garden history. I have just finished co-authoring a book on the Amos Family Cemetery. I also enjoy yoga and swimming at Dolphin Sands and in the Swan River, here at home.
